Inspirational Women
To celebrate International Women’s Day, we invite our members to share information about the women who have inspired them most. This could include authors or filmmakers, books or films written about or by women, or personal mentors and role models who have made a meaningful impact on their lives. Inspirational women are those who break barriers, lead with purpose, and create lasting change across society—from historical pioneers who paved the way to modern-day leaders shaping our world today. Those members wishing to dress up as book characters are welcome to do so.
We’ll begin with small table discussions, giving everyone the chance to share their thoughts in a friendly setting. Afterwards, anyone who would like to speak to the wider group will be invited to do so (please keep contributions to around five minutes).
We’ll also ask you to write down one or two words that capture the essence of the woman you’ve chosen — these will be displayed for everyone to read, creating a collective tribute to the women who inspire us.
It promises to be a meaningful and uplifting evening of shared stories and reflection.

Annual Meeting followed by a talk from Katie Keeley, daughter of our member Rebecca.

Katie is originally from the Peak District and spent several years living in the Dolomites and Austria where she was first introduced to the world of mountaineering, ski touring and alpine climbing.
Since then, these passions have taken her on adventurous journeys all over the world, fostered some incredible friendships and lead to her now becoming an Aspirant International Mountain Leader and Mountaineering Instructor. She currently works as an expedition leader, outdoor instructor and languages teacher.

Brian Topping – Tales of a Customs Officer – Part 2

“A World of Mules and Minders” is part two of Tales of a Customs Officer and we will welcome the return of the former customs officer. Brian will guide us through the background of drug smuggling, provide examples of detection and investigations, and offer amusing anecdotes from when things didn’t go right for smugglers. He’ll present the talk in his usual light-hearted way, without departing from the seriousness of the work.
