We’ve got a fantastic line-up of speakers and events coming up at Saddleworth WI, and we’d love for you to join us. Whether you’re curious, passionate, or just looking for a warm, welcoming group to connect with – there’s something here for everyone!
May 7th – Hog Heaven: A Hedgehog Sanctuary Story
Meet Sue Ashworth from Hog Manor Hedgehog Sanctuary in Delph. After retiring from nursing, Sue followed her heart and opened the sanctuary in 2019. She’ll be sharing touching stories and insights from caring for up to 30 hedgehogs at a time—with the goal of setting them free in the wild. Prepare to be charmed!
We’ll also be celebrating VE80 Day so if possible, please come dressed in Red, White and Blue . (There will be cake!!)
June 4th – Uncovering Modern Slavery
Former Detective Chief Inspector John Piekos shares his powerful journey from policing to advocacy. As the founder of Safe and Free, he now leads the fight against modern slavery and child sexual exploitation. Learn how he’s working to support survivors and campaign for lasting change.

August 6th – Hope in Tanzania
Join Jackie Madden as she talks about her inspiring work with Fallen Angels, a charity in Tanzania supporting orphaned and abandoned children. Discover how they’re reuniting families, strengthening communities, and giving children brighter futures.
September 3rd – Celebration Evening
It’s a special one! We’ll be marking 17 amazing years of Saddleworth WI and 110 years of the Women’s Institute. Come along for a joyful social evening full of connection, celebration, and the chance to meet new friends. (P.S. WI Day is on September 16th!)
October 1st – A Life of Advocacy and Inclusion
Hear from Paul Fairweather MBE, co-founder of George House Trust and lifelong LGBT+ activist. Paul will share his moving story and the vital work of the Trust in supporting people with disabilities and the LGBT+ community across the North West.
November 5th – Speaker To Be Confirmed
