A heads up about our March meeting, which is our Annual Meeting and quiz. As has been regularly mentioned since our 15th Anniversary meeting back in September 2023, March is when the official voluntary roles of President, Secretary and Treasurer, as well as other committee members are nominated and elected. This year we lose two members as they have served the time in office allowed by our bye-laws – Deborah as assistant Treasurer, and Sue, a key member of the events team. We also need a Treasurer, to learn the ropes now,  to replace Jean later in the year. Please give some serious thought to getting involved, so that we can continue to have such a fantastic branch. Speak to those currently carrying out roles for further information. Every member of Saddleworth WI could bring some of their skills, as well as develop new ones,  to keep us running and current, and represent the membership.
Nominations are invited from members, irrespective of length of membership, and the relevant forms are being sent to each member by our secretary, as well as being available at meetings. Our sub-group leaders do an amazing job, and offers from members to lead events or help out are always welcome.

RESOLUTIONS
We will be asked to give our branch vote for one of 4 resolutions to be taken forward by National Federation of WI to influence the government to make changes.  Each member has the opportunity to vote on these important issues, and the topics are:

1.  NHS Dentistry and shortage of dental access, and people suffering health issues as a result
2.   Impacts of poor housing conditions
3.   Say ‘NO’ to gambling advertising
4.    Improving outcomes for women in the criminal justice system

These are covered in some detail following national debate in the November/December issue 136 of WI Life magazine on pages 23 – 24.

We will need to vote at our February meeting on 7th February, submitting the resolution receiving the most votes from our branch, so please take some time to read the issues and intentions of the proposed resolutions.

Membership Renewals 2024.

We have now been advised of the membership fee for 2024 by National Federation of WI, and this will be £48.00 per person and due by the 1st April. As we all know membership numbers of Saddleworth WI are at a premium, so annual fees can be paid now to secure your membership, as well as help us meet the deadline for our branch  payment to National WI, so no later than March 28th 2024 before the Easter Bank Holidays please.
